Narelle Allen is "buzzin'" with joy following the recent successes in her two latest projects; the Drama For Kids Summer School and the CBBC Sport Relief audition!
The Summer School, which occurred in July of 2011 and ran for five days, attracted over fifty students, ranging from 5-18 years old. The junior portion of the school, (5-10 years), performed a scene from the classic children's story, "Hansel and Gretel", followed by an energetic performance of Katy Perry's "Firework". The senior end of the school, (10-18), took a scene from the popular Pixar film, "Despicable Me", and followed it with a professionally choreographed dance routine, "Mr Saxo Beat". The school, as said before, ran for five days, and ended with a showcase of everything so far. After wrapping up the main scenes and dance routines, the juniors and seniors combined their efforts for the thrilling finale, The "Time Warp". The school was a huge hit with the participants, as well as the audience, and left everyone amazed with the efforts of Narelle and her team and the children and teens who took part.
Even more recently, Narelle and 8 of her students travelled to Belfast to audition for CBBC Sport Relief's "Glee Club". The audition, (which featured the aformentioned "Time Warp"), was an a once in a lifetime experience for those who had not been through the audition process previously. Everyone who took part put their heart and soul into the event, and are eagerly awaiting the result which is to be revealed in the middle of December.
Following the audition, the group traversed through Belfast, which at the time was preparing for the MTV EMAs, (European Music Awards). While walking through Belfast, the group bumped into several celebrities, including Lady Gaga, the Geordie Shore boys, and even got a front row seat for a soundcheck by Jason Derulo and Boyce Avenue! Afterwards, two of the group were interviewed by UTV and MTV, and featured on the 6 o' clock news that evening. Truly, this was a memorable experience for everyone who took part.
Drama For Kids is a community based group and is run by Narelle Allen with help from a number of people across the community.
Students from Drama for Kids recently had an audition with the BBC in Belfast where students performed a dance routine for the CBBC programme "The Glee Project" which went really well. The students were amazing and had a fantastic time. However, whilst there we decided to visit Belfast City Hall to see how the preparations were coming along for the EMA awards and it turned out to be a great day! Students met Lady Gaga, Boyce Ave, were interviewed for MTV and UTV and got to see Jason Derulo practise for his performance that evening - what a day!
